Privacy Policy
Effective date: 5 November 2026
Home Game Show: Quiz Maker is a party game for family, friends and groups. You build a game show from your own questions, names and photos and play it on the big screen, with phones as buzzers. We built it to work without collecting anything about you. This policy explains, in plain language, what that means.
The short version
- We do not collect, sell or share personal information about you.
- There are no accounts, no sign-in, no ads, no analytics, no crash-reporting services and no tracking.
- Your shows, questions, team names, photos and settings stay on your device.
- If you run a live room so phones can buzz in, the room's data is passed along to the devices in that room and is deleted when the room closes or after 6 hours of inactivity.
- Purchases are handled entirely by Apple or Google. We never see your card or payment details.
Who we are
Home Game Show is published by New Version Limited, a company based in New Zealand ("we", "us"). You can reach us at any time at homegameshow.support@newversion.studio.
What stays on your device
The app keeps what it needs to work in a private database and private files on your device:
- the shows you create, duplicate or import, including every question, answer, category, team name and score;
- the photos you attach to questions or team avatars (see Photos and camera below);
- your settings, your game-night history and whether Home Game Show Plus is active on your account.
We cannot see any of this. It is not uploaded to us. Depending on your device settings, your phone's own backup service (for example iCloud or Google backup) may include app data in your device backup. That backup is controlled by you and by Apple or Google, not by us.
The fonts, sounds and starter shows you see in the app are bundled inside it. Playing on one device needs no internet connection.
Photos and camera
If you add a photo to a question or a team avatar, the app asks your device for permission to use your photo library or camera, only at that moment. The app only reads the photos you pick. It keeps its own copy of each picked photo in its private storage on your device; the original stays where it was. You can remove a photo from a show at any time.
Photos are not uploaded anywhere unless you open a live room (next section).
Live rooms (phones as buzzers)
You can open a live room so that phones can join with a four-letter room code, buzz in, and so that a second screen can show the game. This uses a small relay service that we run on Cloudflare's network. It only passes messages between the devices in the room.
What is sent through the relay while a room is open:
- the room code and the player names and team choices people type in or pick;
- buzzes and the order they arrived in;
- what the audience is allowed to see right now: the show name, categories, the question that is open, revealed answers, scores and team names. Hidden answers are never sent;
- the photo that the current question shows, as a downscaled thumbnail (about 150 KB at most).
What happens to it:
- It is forwarded to the host, the screens and the phones in that room. Anyone who has the room code can join the room while it is open, so share the code only with the people you are playing with. Everyone in the room can see the names, the photos and the questions that are put on screen.
- It is held only while the room exists. When the host ends the room, or the room has had no activity for 6 hours, the relay deletes everything it held for it, including the thumbnails, and the code stops working.
- We do not link room data to any account (there are none), and the relay does not store IP addresses, device identifiers or location with a room.
- To deliver a connection and to limit abuse, our hosting provider Cloudflare processes technical connection details such as your IP address. Cloudflare's standard service logs, which we use only to keep the service running and fix faults, may briefly include details of a connection such as the room code. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
Because room data is passed along only to run the room and is deleted when it ends, we do not treat it as personal information that we collect or keep.
Sharing and importing shows
If you export or share a show, the app creates a file that you choose to send to someone through your device's share sheet. What happens to the file after that depends on the app or person you send it to. If you import a show, the app checks the file and adds it to your device. Imported shows come from whoever sent them, so only open files from people you trust.
Purchases
Home Game Show Plus can be bought as a weekly or yearly subscription or as a one-time lifetime purchase. All purchases are made through the Apple App Store or Google Play.
- Apple or Google collects and processes your payment details and purchase history. We never receive your card number, billing address or other payment details.
- The app asks the store what your account owns and keeps the answer on your device so that Plus works offline.
- As the developer we receive only the standard aggregated sales and financial reports that Apple and Google provide to all developers. These reports do not identify individual players to us.
- Apple and Google act as independent controllers of the information they collect when you buy. Their handling of your data is governed by their own privacy policies: Apple Privacy Policy and Google Privacy Policy.
No advertising, analytics or tracking
Home Game Show contains no advertising, no analytics or crash-reporting software development kits (SDKs), no social media plug-ins and no tracking technology of any kind. We do not build profiles, and we do not sell or share data, because we do not have any. The app does not ask for permission to track you.
Children
Home Game Show is suitable for all ages and has an age rating of 4+. It is a general-audience game for families, friends and groups; it is not directed specifically at children, and it has no ads, no chat and no links out to the web inside gameplay. Because we do not collect personal information from anyone, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under the age of digital consent in your country).
Hosts often put people's names and photos (including children's) into a show. Those stay on your device. If you open a live room, remember that everyone in the room, including people who only have the code, can see what is shown on screen. Parents and guardians can use Apple's and Google's parental controls (such as Ask to Buy and purchase approvals) to manage purchases. If you have a question, please email us.
International users and your rights
Home Game Show is available worldwide. Because we do not collect personal information, we do not hold personal data about you on our systems. Even so, privacy laws give you rights, and we respect them:
- New Zealand: under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask to access or correct personal information an agency holds about you.
- European Economic Area and United Kingdom: under the GDPR and UK GDPR you can ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection and portability, and you can complain to your local data protection authority.
- California and other US states: under the CCPA/CPRA and similar laws you can ask what personal information a business collects, and ask for it to be deleted. We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.
You are welcome to send any such request to homegameshow.support@newversion.studio. We will reply to confirm what we hold, which is nothing about you beyond what is described above. For information held by Apple or Google about your purchases, please contact them directly.
Keeping and deleting your data
Your shows, photos and settings stay on your device until you remove them. You can delete a show inside the app, or open Settings and tap Delete my data, which erases every show, photo and setting on this device and restores the starter shows. Uninstalling the app also removes the app and its local data from your device. There are no accounts and nothing about you is kept on a server; the live-room relay only passes messages along during a game and forgets the room when it ends or after 6 idle hours.
Neither Delete my data nor uninstalling cancels a subscription or removes purchases. Manage or cancel a subscription in the App Store or Google Play; Restore purchases brings Plus back. If your device backup included Home Game Show, you can delete that backup through your iCloud or Google account settings.
Security
Your data stays on your device, so the main protection for it is your device's own security, such as its passcode and encryption. Live rooms use encrypted connections (HTTPS and secure WebSockets), host controls use a secret token that never leaves the host device, and the relay checks and limits every message it receives. There are no accounts or passwords to steal. Please keep your device and your store account secure.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles information, we will update this page and the effective date at the top. If we ever make a change that affects what is collected, we will tell you in the app before the change takes effect. Using the app after an update means you accept the updated policy.
